Sunflower field - Helianthus in the sky

A lot of time is passed from my last post... Did I say you that I got married? (well... it's more than a year that we got married...)
The fact is that when you start to live together with your beloved one, your life change, and so do the things you do :-)
One of the things that changed is how we spend our spare time: I spend more time on technology-related things (lately you can find more posts on my tech blog) and I do less photos (and so I post less on this blog)

Anyway... for my daily commute I pass between many fields, and some week ago I saw some amazing sunflowers fields. Each day I looked at them... and I decided I need to take some photos: the sunflower fields are too nice! :-)
So, one evening, on my way back to home, I phoned my wife and told her "darling, I'll be home a bit late today..." and I spent about one hour between the sunflowers! :-)

Please, ignore the not-so-serious caption under the following photos :-)

Hello, I'm a sunflower, look what a nice sky there is today.

I have a lot of friends too!
I'm just disclosing my eyes on the world...
 Taller than the others!
 Something geometrical....

The sky behind!

 Sometime we look down...
A yellower shade of pale :-)

 Everybody, together!
 High, into the sky!
 Sunflower: proud to be one!

Snow on the countryside: Tractor tracks on ice - Icy path through field

Here are what tractor tracks looks like after some snow and ice.

Blurred away, near the tree, there is a car with a man standing near it: maybe I was not the only one taking some photos of this nice landscape :-)

Snow on the countryside: Double vanishing point - Snowy ploughed field to the horizon

Did I already said that I love the bumpy looks of the snow over ploughed fields?

About the photo development: in the lower part of the image I've reduced the saturation, and increased the contras, to make the bumpy looks more prominent. And the fact that the furrows go as far as the eyes can see, is definitely a plus for this image :-)

Snow on the countryside: Bumpy snow to the horizon - Snow like human cells

Here is another field covered with snow.
I absolutely love the bumpy looks of the snow.
The lower part of the image is in BW with increased contrast, to make the bumpy looks stand out.

The snow, when it's like that, remember me the image of human cells that come out from electron microscope:
Scanning electron micrograph of surface of alveolar epithelium of human lung with two type II epithelial cells (EP2). Arrows, boundary (terminal bar) of type I cell. Asterisk, nucleus of type I cell. Bar, 5 m.

Snow on the countryside: Canal haze, and snowy stone pillars - The road toward the light

A nice morning with some snow in the Italian countryside :-)
In this shot I really like the haze comping up from the canal, and the tiny bump of the fresh snow over plowed fields.

A frozen branch, snowy fields, and distant trees. Italian countryside.

Snow on the countryside: Water reflection in the fields - Snow over trees

Tree reflection in the canal

Some weeks ago snow came down during the night... the day after the sky was clear and blue.
I didn't resist the temptation: I picked up my reflex and made a trip in the countryside to take some photos.
I spent about 90 minute walking in the fields and photographing nice things, I depleted 3 batteries, and took about 800 photos... In the next days I'll post some of the best images I've been able to develop.

In this specific photo, you can see some fields covered by snow, and the tree's reflection in the canal.
In this image I pushed the exposure/contrast of the canal, to made the refection more interesting.
There was a light haze coming up from the canal, you can barely notice it in the lower right corner.

Here is how it look  from the Google Car :-)

I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Salsomaggiore's hills: The sun in the sky 2

Here is another view of the landscape on the hills near Salsomaggiore Terme, Italy

I've posted here another photo of the same place.

Under the fountain 'Reloaded' - Frozen ice stalactites

Some ice stalactites under a fountain in Castell'Arquato (a small medioeval town located in north Italy).

I've already posted this image back in 2009, but I've re-edited it recently. I like the new result, it's more... "icy", so I think it's worth another look :-)

Eureka, I'm on Street View! And Google Street View Car is on my blog! :-) - Google took a shot of me on Elba Island beach!

I was waiting for it, I knew it was going to happen...
I kept checking for update on street view on Elba Island's roads: finally Google updated its databases.

And now I can say it: I'm on Street View!
And Google Street View Car is on my blog!
This is so meta... :-)

That morning we had just arrived at the Enfola beach, on the Island of Elba, Italy.
I was walking to my car to get something that I had forgotten ... and then I saw a Google Street View Car maneuvering to turn back.
Of course I always have my compact camera with me, especially during the holidays (my DSLR camera was a bit 'too far... it was on the beach in the bag :-)), so I pulled out my compact with a feline gesture and I managed to snap some photos at the Google car before seeing it vanish away between the curves of the Elba Island :-)

Here is me on Google Street View, taking some photos of the Google Stret View Car, on the Enfola Beach, Elba Island, Italy.

Island of Elba by photos: Boat in the bay - Cape Enfola, reflections at sunset

Cape Enfola, mid zoom...
...Cape Enfola, zommed in...

...Cape Enfola, zoomed out.

I think I shoudn't post 3 similar photos in a row of the same place at the same time... but I cant really decide which one I like the most.
This is Capo Enfola, it mark the north boundary of Viticcio Bay, on Elba Island, Italy.
Images captured just after the sunset with my Manfrotto tripod :-)

Island of Elba by photos: The Sun like a star - Burning sunset

The Sun, like a star.

Yes, I know, the Sun is a star :-) It's just one of the 2–4×1011 stars existing in our galaxy, which is only one of the 1.7 × 1011 estimated existing galaxies... wow, these figures always amaze me :-)
Anyway, in the post title I'm referring to the shape you can attain when shotting the sun at 70mm and  f 36, like in the shot above. It may be a bit exaggerated, but sometime I love to close the iris down to f 36 to shape the points of light like a star :-)

The Sun, blowing your monitor :-)

Of course, you can also shot the sun at 70mm and f 8, to attain a globular burning ball of fire that seem to blow your monitor :-) (no, it won't blow your monitor for real... :-))

Island of Elba by photos: Viticcio bay, one sunset for each day

...and landscape.

Which one do you prefer? Landscape or portrait?

Did I already mention that I took a ridiculous amount of photos at sunset time? :-)

Island of Elba by photos: Viticcio Bay, night and day - Photography times

Viticcio bay at golden hours time... (early morning)

Viticcio bay at sharp shadows time... (lunch time)

Viticcio bay at appetizer time... (dinner time)

Viticcio bay at sunset time...

Viticcio bay at night shot time!

All these photos have one things in common: I took them with a compact camera (Canon Ixus 870).
I still hate myself for not taking with me my DSLR during our first dinner on Elba Island :-|
These photos are nice, but the quality of image produced by my compact camera can't compete with a DSLR camera. The clouds doesn't looks naturals, and the colors are oversaturated and "grainy".

Anyway, each photo not taken is a memory that can go lost. I will not forget all these moments. :-)

Island of Elba by photos: Isola di Cerboli - Alone, like an island

Alone, like an island, in the middle of the sea.

This is the Island of Cerboli (link to google maps) near the Elba Island, Italy.
I took this photo from the ferry.
This photo is very homogeneous: only sky, sea, some haze, and a tiny island.
I like it's symmetry, and the fact that it exasperate the concept of "isolation" of the island :-)
